Yi Jia Zi Can Yin is right next to Qingshui Zushi Temple in Wanhua. Three generations have kept making old-school snacks the traditional way, and it’s gotten a Michelin Bib Gourmand for years, and there’s always a line of locals and tourists from all over.
It started in Madou, Tainan, where the stall was known for Madou wan gui, sushi, and ji rou fan. After 60 years in business (one “jia zi,” around 2020), they officially changed the name to “Yi Jia Zi Can Yin” and added their famous kong rou fan and gua bao.
Must-Try Dishes
- Kong Rou Fan: Pork belly with the perfect fat-to-lean mix, braised until it’s a deep amber color, served with southern Taiwan rice, dou gan, suan cai, pickled cucumber, and spicy cai pu. Salty-sweet and not greasy at all.
- Gua Bao: Keeps that sweeter Tainan style — soft pork belly with suan cai and rich peanut sugar powder. People call it the Taiwanese hamburger.
- You Tiao Yu Wan Tang: A classic combo with real Tainan flavor.
- Madou Wan Gui: An old-school rice dish made the same way for 50 years.
The bun is white, fluffy, and soft but still chewy. The kong rou is fatty but not greasy and melts in your mouth — the fat part is soft and full of collagen, and the lean part “soaks up the sauce without getting dry.” Peanut powder and cilantro: the peanut powder is “sweet and fine” with a little crunch, and the cilantro adds its “one-of-a-kind fresh smell,” so the whole thing tastes “rich but never boring.”
Overall: salty and sweet together — wow from the first bite! The warm bun wraps up the juicy meat, crunchy suan cai, and sweet peanuts for a “perfect balance” in your mouth.
