Chen Ji Chang Ke Zhuan Ye Mian Xian, near Longshan Temple in Wanhua, is a local legend that’s been around for over 30 years.
The da chang ke zai mian xian has a sweet, lightly thickened broth made with bonito flakes and seafood. The soul of the dish is the thick, chewy da chang tou braised dark and full of flavor, and the giant, plump, sweet oysters. Their logo, “Chang E Ben Yue” (Chang’e flying to the moon), is a pun — it sounds like “chang” (intestine) and “ke” (oyster).
The oysters are huge and plump and burst with juice when you bite them — way bigger, fuller, and fresher than at most places.
The handmade hong mian xian is fine and smooth, and with lots of garlic and cilantro, it smells amazing. The intestines are braised all the way through — chewy with no funky smell at all. The oysters from Dongshi are big and plump and kind of pop in your mouth, full of ocean flavor. Add a few drops of wu cu or some of their special chili, and the flavors really stand out. Classic, rich, super satisfying old-school taste.
